Samson CO3U
I was playing about with the webcam that I bought recently trying to record some music. The sound really blew out on the loud notes. The last webcam I tried didn’t have this problem at all. I will play about a bit more to see if I can improve the situation.
I found this condenser microphone today on Amazon. It looks great and works straight off USB without the need of a pre-amp. It’s a Samson CO3U. I’m buying it as part of a kit that includes a stand and shockmount. I’m really looking forward to recording with it.
Have any of you used it? It seems to get good reviews on Amazon. I’m now hoping it arrives before the Thanksgiving holidays!

gotta love the comment, Neil …
Seriously, let us know how this mic works out - I’ve heard of it, and I hear pretty good things about it, too - but haven’t known someone who actually USED it.

Hmm! Neil beat me to it, Alastair!!
You did notice that is Garageband in the background … Do those Windows (heathen) machines even have any nearly equivalent software that can properly handle sound from a USB mic?!?
BTW how’s the halo effect from that iPod?!? Come on now, why would anyone go heathen when you can play ANY O/S you want on a stable Mac? You’re now in the land of cheap Macs and you don’t have the crazy, ignorant anti-Apple UK bias to deal with anymore … so what’s keeping you?
Sorry, Liz, I know this could cost our friendship if Alastair goes and spends money on more electronic gear, but hey! I cannot hold it back and would die for the truth!
[Boy! Did I just have fun or what?!?]
Hugs guys! Miss you very much.
