Ireland: Leading Worship - 20 Jul 2008

Monday, July 21st, 2008

I lead worship yesterday at my old church in Ireland.  The lads really appreciated me getting them out of bed for an 8am practice.  I think Robert even said he never got up that early - ever - not even on a week day.  I was so glad I arranged it for that time after hearing that.  ;-)
I stuck pretty much to my revised setlist except that I dropped My Saviour Lives and Above All Powers.  We did Healer (chords) which was great.  Man that song is special.  I introduced it by telling a bit of the story behind it and it nearly had me in tears.

It was nice to be back and playing with the band.  It was nearly like I was never away.

Ireland: Giant’s Causeway

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

My brother Mark and I headed up to the Giant’s Causeway on Saturday to take some photos.  Between us we took close to 500 photos.  I’ve just finished sorting through them.  Click on the photo above for a small selection.

We stopped in to the Bushmills Inn on the way home and had a great feed.

Ireland: Revised LCF Set List - 20 Jul 2008

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

I have revised the set list a little for Sunday.  Here is what it is looking like now.

  • (B) My Saviour Lives
This song was introduced recently, so it should be fairly fresh on people’s minds.
  • (B) King Of Majesty
I’m not sure if this one has been done before or not, but it will be easy to pick up and sing along to.
  • (G) Your Grace Is Enough
This is an old regular (Chris Tomlin’s arrangement).
  • (B) Nothing But The Blood
I think this one will be new, but the lyrics are familiar due to the hymn and people will be singing along in no time.
  • (B) Jesus Paid It All
This is an old hymn with a new bridge added.  My Dad knew this one from way back.  I’m hoping other folk will too.
  • (G) Above All Powers / (B) Healer *
I’d love to try Healer to end tomorrow’s set, but I’m not sure I can do it justice yet.  We’ll have to see how practice goes tomorrow morning.

Right click on song titles and select “Save Link As…” or equivalent to save chords to your computer.  Play with Capo on fret 4 for songs in B.

Tune Your Guitar Down A Half Step

Friday, July 18th, 2008

I picked up from Phil Wickham’s True Love video that he tunes his guitar down a half step.  I hadn’t heard of this being done before and I was intrigued.  I immediately thought of how this might benefit me.  The action on my guitar is a little higher than I would like and tuning down a half step might make the strings a little less ‘hard’ on my fingers to play for extended periods.

I looked online to see what other benefits it might have.  The common use seems to be for vocalists who might find it difficult hitting high notes in a certain key.  Another use is that it gives the guitar a deeper and more richer sound.

I did find one guy that thought it might put girls in the mood!

I’m travelling at the moment so I’m not able to try this on my guitar.  However I may borrow a guitar to try it out.  Here’s some instructions on how to tune down.

Does anyone else tune down routinely?  What’s your reason?  Let me know.

200th YouTube Subscriber!

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Back in Feburary I posted on reaching my 100th subscriber. Tonight, thanks to Killy429, I now have reached 200 subscribers! Thanks again for your encouragement and support.

I have a competitor on YouTube who keeps taunting me about my subscription numbers. His rate of gathering subscribers is quite amazing since his videos are all about some computer game that only three other people are known to play. I fear he will overtake me very soon unless I get some help. ;-)

Check out my YouTube channel here.

Here’s another great lesson from Phil Wickham, this time for the song True Love.  You can find the chords for the song on his blog.

Ireland: LCF Set List - 20 Jul 2008

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

I’m leading worship this weekend at my church in Ireland.  It’s been nearly a year since I last led there, so it’s going to be a bit weird for me.  These are the songs I have tentatively selected for Sunday.  I’m not sure doing so many new songs is a good idea, so the list may change.

  • My Savior Lives
  • King Of Majesty
  • Never Let Go
  • God With Us
  • Cannons (Phil WIckham)
  • Jesus Paid It All

Ireland: Family Day

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

We had a family day at Tollymore Forest Park yesterday (minus Philip, Kelly and Elena).  Mum & Dad, David, Mark & Angela and Liz & I and the kids all drove down to Newcastle (Northern Ireland) around mid-day to spend a couple of hours together.  The weather turned out to be fantastic.  Mark brought his camera and took some nice photos.
