Don Francisco on YouTube

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

One of my early Christian artist influences was Don Francisco. I found some videos of him on YouTube tonight. Here is one song I plan to upload soon myself - “I’ll Never Let Go Of Your Hand“.

Thanksgiving!

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

I found this in my son’s school bag while reviewing his Thanksgiving school work. He is currently in Grade 2. Kids pick up more than you think. Both Daddy’s are very proud - Earth Daddy and Heavenly Daddy.

I am thankful for Jesus because he made us the world and planets.
He saved us from sin. I am thankful because he made us.
I like Jesus. He is very good.
One time I fell, he healed my cut.

Vance Birthplace!

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Mountain pioneers built their cabins in the high valleys and coves of western North Carolina. The Vance family pioneer homestead is nestled in picturesque Reems Creek valley, shadowed by the mountains of the Blue Ridge. Members of this family included five outstanding men of character, each of whose lives was marked by service to the people of North Carolina in local, state, and national capacities.

Just found this site that can turn your blog into a book.  Not something I would use, but some of you may be interested out there.   Looks pretty good.

Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Well today was Thanksgiving. Everything was fairly quiet around the neighbourhood. We had some breakfast and went to Lake Crabtree County Park which is about 5mins drive from our house. The park was closed, but we just parked up outside the gate and walked in.

It was quite windy today, but warm. We walked up the deserted road towards the lake with leaves falling all around. It was a lovely relaxing walk. We met a little snake on the road and stopped to take some photos. The boys (including me) were so happy to actually see one in the wild - ok, it was tiny - but it was still a snake! We thought it was a baby Corn Snake based on information available in the park, but now looking online, it seems it was a baby Rat Snake. They grow to around 7 feet in length.

phillip webcamLiz was thrilled to meet Mr.Snake too. Not.

There is a couple of fishing piers on the lake that I hope to take the boys down to when we get sorted out with fishing rods. There is a warning however that fish from the lake should not be eaten because they are full of chemicals!

The park has a couple of play areas also, so the kids spent some time playing on there before we left.

We came home and had some lunch. The kids played outside on their bikes while I talked with Philip and his new webcam, and then I phoned Brendan and had a yarn. After that Liz phoned home and spoke to her family then it was time to make dinner.

We shunned the traditional Turkey and Ham dinner and made Roast Beef and Yorkshire Puddings. It was superb! Haven’t had Yorkshire Puddings for ages.

Samson CO3U

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

MicI was playing about with the webcam that I bought recently trying to record some music. The sound really blew out on the loud notes. The last webcam I tried didn’t have this problem at all. I will play about a bit more to see if I can improve the situation.

I found this condenser microphone today on Amazon. It looks great and works straight off USB without the need of a pre-amp. It’s a Samson CO3U. I’m buying it as part of a kit that includes a stand and shockmount.  I’m really looking forward to recording with it.

Have any of you used it?  It seems to get good reviews on Amazon.  I’m now hoping it arrives before the Thanksgiving holidays!

It’s Nearly Thanksgiving…

Monday, November 19th, 2007

It’s a short this week for me at work. I’m off from Wednesday for the rest of the week. It’s Noah’s birthday on Wednesday and then Thursday is Thanksgiving. I’m looking forward to some time off.

We plan to hit Frankie’s on Wednesday to celebrate Noah’s birthday. On Thursday we’re going to go to the park for a walk - probably Crab Tree Park. I’ve just noticed they have fishing spots there - I mean to take the boys fishing some time.

It’s forcasted to be 72df on Wednesday and slightly colder on the Thursday and Friday (possible rain).

Last weekend we went to see the Christmas lights swiched on down at a local mall. Lifehouse where playing which was pretty cool. They played from 6.30 - 7.15pm. At 7.30pm we were live on TV while Lifehouse played again followed by other entertainment. The kids were getting bored, so we left before the lights were actually switched on!

We got Noah a bike for his birthday. He’s been out most of the afternoon on it today. Nathan is finding it difficult waiting for his bike to arrive from Ireland in the container. Poor fella.

Church was good on Sunday. Enjoyed the worship time and the message. After church we drove to an factory outlet mall down in Smithfield, NC. It wasn’t as good as we had expected, but not bad all the same. I bought some running shoes and shorts (!!). Now it’s down to difficult task of actually putting them on and running!

Had our first video chat with Mum and Dad on the webcam… they got a tour of the house which was great fun!

Worship Videos

Hi guys, it’s been a while since I blogged here.  We’re busy settling in to our new life in the USA.  Keep us in your prayers as we seek where and how God wants us to serve.

I bought a web cam at the weekend (Logitech Pro 9000) so I intend to keep working on the YouTube videos so I don’t get out of practice!

Settling down…

Saturday, November 10th, 2007

I can’t believe a week has passed since our last post. This week has flew in. The cable guy has been and gone. He installed the wrong cable box (non-HD), so we had to go back to the shop that night and get a replacement box. Came back and plugged it in - sweeet HD. Lovely.

Liz took the old box back the night after and then our cable stopped working in the house. After an hour on the phone to Time Warner we finally got it sorted out.

We’re chilling this weekend. Katie is standing right in front of the tv, listening and dancing to Rascal Flatts. She’ll be wearing cowboy boots and denim skirts next. Oh hang on, she has a denim skirt already…

Our phone service from vonage is also up and running. We get unlimited calls within the USA and to the UK which is great. I sent out some emails on how to get cheap calls to the US. If you didn’t get it, check out the information on moneysavingexpert.com.

We’re not sure yet how long our container will take to get here. The guy who was dealing with it has left Campbell Freight, so things are up in the air at the moment. I don’t think it has left Northern Ireland yet.

We’re loving our new house. Even though we have very little furniture it’s nice to be moved in. The kids have had a full week at school now and I think they really like it. It will be Thanks Giving (and Noah’s birthday) soon and I’ll be off work for a few days which will be nice. Looking forward to that.

We are having a few issues living here without a social security number, or a valid state id. We can’t pay bills online, we can’t rent DVDs from blockbuster, we need to pay deposits to the utility companies, etc.

So, next week I’ll be trying to get my social security number in Durham. After that Liz and I need to focus on getting our North Carolina driving license. That should be fun! Driving here can be a bit nuts at times. The traffic can get really busy.

Keep an eye on our photo albums on picasa - they are updated fairly regularly. The photo in this post is of Katie in our back garden. The leaves on the trees are well into their autumn colours… reds, browns, oranges… it’s a really nice time of the year out here.
