New Music: You Are My God

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

Here’s another song by my sister-in-law Anna.  We made a rough recording of it last week which can be heard below.  I plan to do a YouTube video of it soon - watch this space.

Video: Healer (Planetshakers / Hillsong)

Monday, July 28th, 2008

We had a BBQ at my Dad’s church last night and a sing-song time afterwards (as is traditional). It was fairly relaxed so I played through a few songs that we sing back in North Carolina. Healer is pretty much taking the worship scene by storm at the moment.

Video: Holy Is The Lord (Chris Tomlin)

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I don’t normally do requests, mainly because I already have a list of songs in my head that I want to do and don’t even have time to do those!  HollisBoy92 over at YouTube requested this the other day and I managed to squeeze it in during my (now routine) Sunday night* recording slot!

*My wife watches Desperate Housewives followed by Brothers and Sisters - so I get two whole hours of guilt-free play time!  Rock & Roll!   ;-)

As I mentioned in the previous post, video quality is not great.  I’m currently experimenting with different software packages and video capture methods.

Video: Cannons (Phil Wickham)

Monday, May 12th, 2008

I found Phil’s Cannon lesson the other day and loved the song.  This is a great worship song and I’d love to play it at church.  I think it would go down a treat.

I used Vegas to capture the video (Logitech Pro 9000) and audio (Samson CO3U) for this.  As you can see, the video framerate is not great, and slightly out of sync.  I need to tweak some settings.  The second video (Holy Is The Lord) I’ll be putting up in a second suffers even worse.

Lyrics
Come, Thou fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace.
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I’m fixed upon it,
Mount of God’s redeeming love.

Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Hither by Thy help I come.
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wand’ring from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interposed His precious blood.

Oh, to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wand’ring heart to Thee:
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love.
Here’s my heart, Lord, take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

Song of the Week #1

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Our God Saves” by Paul Baloche & Brenton Brown

I hadn’t heard this before preparing for this weeks worship rehearsal.  I love how the song is quite simple and the way it builds (and builds) to the chorus.  I’m developing a real appreciation of harmony recently and the harmonies along with lead vocals during the chorus of this song should blow the roof off on Sunday.

You can download the MP3 and lead sheet from leadworship.com.  I’ve provided direct links below for your convenience.

During practice, I found myself singing loud Our God REIGNS instead of Our God SAVES a couple of times!  ;-)

MP3 Audio Now Available

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

I’ve had one or two people ask if they could download the audio for the videos I have on YouTube.  So last night I extracted the audio from all the videos and uploaded them to my blog.  I will be linking to them from the YouTube and MP3 page.

Drum Machine

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

I’ve been thinking of beefing up some of my YouTube videos with vocal harmonies and drums.  Can anyone recommend a good (easy to use) Windows PC based drum machine?  I installed Hydrogen about a year ago on Linux but didn’t use it for long.

This will be the first one I try again, but I’d like to know about any you have found useful.

Video: Nothing But The Blood

Friday, December 7th, 2007

We would sometimes play the odd hymn during a worship service. This happens to be one of my favourites and I’ve been meaning to record it for ages now. What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus of course!

Ephesians 2:13 says But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.”

This is the first video using the Samson condenser microphone and Logitech webcam combination. I need to play around a bit more over the next few videos to get it right (e.g. more gain on the microphone, more fps in the video).
